Jesus’ Retreat: His Need for Sacred Solitude in the Midst of Healing the World
Mark 1:29-39
Self-care is a concern in a world where one literally be worked to death and not receive adequate compensation. In our previous week’s lectionary, Jesus began his Ministry of teaching and healing, which are intimately interconnected in Mark’s Gospel. This week, Jesus’ Ministry extends beyond the walls of the synagogue in Capernum to the home of Simon and Andrew, and then the entire town. Jesus retreats to the wilderness to pray in solitude. This week let us meditate on the manner in which Jesus needs to practice his own self-care, and how we can imitate our Lord.
