The United Churches of North Toronto have joined together to offer a whole year’s worth of weeknight adult education opportunities. Here’s what’s up through the end of December, 2019!

  1. Not Sure: A Pastor’s Journey from Faith to Doubt. This book, by LPCC minister, John Suk, is a personal memoir about the loss of his childhood faith. It is written against the backdrop of how faith has been understood through the ages. The publication of this book was one of the key reasons John left his evangelical denomination, the Christian Reformed Church, and became a minister in the United Church, instead.

Where: Lawrence Park Community Church, 2180 Bayview. There is a GreenP lot across the street. Head upstairs to the Music Hall.

When: Wednesday evenings, Sept 11 through Oct 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.

What? Order your book from Amazon.ca, or (better yet) pick one up (for only 10 dollars) at LPCC’s church office or at the class. You don’t have to read chapter one to enjoy the first class!

2. The Art of Compassionate Listening in an Age of Noise. EGS members, Patti Thompson and Don Parsons, will lead a four-week discussion on topics such as listening to ourselves, listening to God, and listening to others, and our emotional responses. The classes will speak to the noise, to our inner critics, to the silence of God, and other realities of our lives.

Where: Eglinton St. George United Church, 35 Lytton Boulevard. Head for the Eglinton Room.

When: October 23, 30, November 6 and 20.

3. Searching for Bethlehem. Manor Road’s new (but well-known!) minister, John Joseph Mastandrea will help attendees prepare for Christmas with this Advent Study. Note the time!

Where: Manor Road United Church, 240 Manor Road East

When: December 4, 11, 18, 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

4. Celebrating Abundance: Devotions for Advent by Walter Brueggemann. Daily reflections on the stories of Advent that invite us to see beyond the world’s faux extravagance and realize the true feast laid out before us. Twelve prayers are also included for the twelve days of Christmas.

Where: Calvin Presbyterian/Deer Park United, 26 Delisle Ave. One block north of Yonge & St. Clair, west off Yonge beside the GreenP parking lot.

When: November 19, 26, December 3, 10, 7:00 pm – 8:30 p.m.

Coming in 2020: More Adult Ed offerings at: Northlea, Rosedale, Dewi Sant, more Deer Park, and Leaside United Churches! Information will be forthcoming in October! Stay posted.
