Living in Right Relations Service

Jenny BlackbirdJenny Blackbird, Plains Cree drummer, singer, storyteller, actor and all around artist delighted the congregation on June 12 with drumming, singing and storytelling at our annual service on the lawn. Strawberries were shared as Jenny explained the significance of the strawberry in Anishnawbe culture. After the service, there was more strawberries: strawberry shortcake and strawberry juice. A great way to mark the 30th Anniversary of the United Church of Canada’s apology to First Nations Peoples!

Also joining us appropriately that day was Sarah Midanick, who accepted a cheque from Manor Road on behalf of the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto. This visit wraps up our Season of Sharing.
